Abstract

This mixed methods study explored the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI), traits of personality, and Level II fieldwork performance in an MOT and OTA program. The study adds additional information to the limited evidence on the key factors to fieldwork success. The evidence presented has both practical and theoretical implications for admissions committees to consider when selecting candidates who will not only be successful academically, but clinically as well. Objectives: The participant will learn whether or not EI and/or personality were predictive of student performance during fieldwork. The participant will understand the CFE’s perspective on the importance of EI and personality in regards to fieldwork performance. The participant will consider the possibility of admissions committees exploring non-cognitive variables when evaluating potential candidates.
