Escape Rooms as an Effective Teaching Modality for Occupational Therapy Students
Abstract
This project aims to determine if using escape rooms as a form of gamification might benefit occupational therapy students. Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistant students were randomly paired and assigned to an online or in-person escape room. Pre- and post-surveys were collected. The results showed that both the in-person and online escape rooms were effective in teaching content learning, critical thinking, active learning, and intraprofessional collaboration. Objectives: The first objective for the participants is to learn about the effectiveness of escape rooms as a teaching modality for occupational therapy students. Another objective is to explore positive outcomes resulting from the escape rooms. The third objective is to compare two different formats of an escape room as the teaching modality.
